Tony Bristow

On Friday 23rd February Tony Bristow sadly passed away from a heart attack.

It is difficult to assess the full impact that Tony as a dedicated volunteer had on the game today and the many roles he fulfilled within the badminton community contributing significantly to the game particularly in Suffolk and across many areas of the Badminton England portfolio.

As a member of Suffolk Badminton Association Council for over 50 years taking on a variety of positions including Chair and President, Tony showed avid support of badminton across the county promoting the sport at every opportunity. Tireless in his efforts he was instrumental in raising the profile of badminton in the county. A particular advocate for junior badminton, working with Suffolk schools and providing opportunities for competitive play, his contribution cannot be underestimated and has been greatly appreciated by all in Suffolk

Initially involvement was with Suffolk Schools Badminton before he became involved with English Schools Badminton Association (ESBA). With ESBA he was key to the development of schools and junior badminton becoming its treasurer. He sat on various Badminton England boards and committees including Schools & Youth Board, Coaching & Development and Competition & Events.

He became a referee and organised many tournaments both locally and nationally, working tirelessly to develop the junior competition circuit.

He also took on the role of Eastern Regional Co-ordinator where again he contributed to a regional plan and regional tournaments.

He was a very special volunteer and friend to many.

A service of thanksgiving for the life of Tony Bristow took place at St. Mary's Church, Mildenhall on Wednesday 20th March at 1pm.
