Shires League Semifinals Sunday 26th February 2012 The Suffolk Under- |
the end both the girls’ and the boys’ doubles were shared, however with Suffolk winning all their 4 doubles in 2 games & with Essex needing three games to win their four doubles the final result was a 10 all draw. In normal Shires matches this would have been the final score, but with a winner needed once the games count back was done, Suffolk had won 27 and Essex 23, giving Suffolk the excellent win by four games. All members of the team gave their utmost efforts and with the combination of match wins and the determination shown in pushing Essex to needing 3 games to win 7 out of the 10 matches they won, an excellent team effort. Shires League Finals Sunday 1st April 2012 Following the Under- The top four league teams were drawn to play the winners of the playoffs with Suffolk
drawn against Buckinghamshire. The playing format followed a normal Shires League
match with the exception that each game was one set to 21 points with no setting.
After some excellent play against strong opposition Suffolk lost 5- The second round was again drawn, with the winners from the last round, Yorkshire,
Buckinghamshire, Cheshire & Warwickshire to compete for first to fourth positions,
and the runners up from the first round to contest the fifth to eight positions.
Unfortunately the draw was not favourable to us, with Hampshire drawn as our opposition.
Hampshire girls were particularly strong and the mixed would prove to be the pivotal
event. After very close games Hampshire eventually took all four mixed which did
prove to be conclusive, the final match score 14- Our final match to decide seventh & eight positions, placed us against Avon. Having
been determined at the start of the event that we were not there to just settle for
eight position, our resolve was high to win the last match. Following very convincing
strong performances Suffolk won 16- |

Suffolk Badminton Under-
Their goal was simple: to beat Suffolk’s previous highest position of 16th. Fantastic efforts, amazing fortitude and great team spirit saw the team raise their performances to meet the challenge. After two days of intense competition the team found themselves in the 9th to 12th group, already achieving their goal, but not prepared to just settle for this. Marvellous performances saw the team win all three of their last group matches to take their rightful position in the top 10 teams in the country this year.
