There was a large entry, with 14 players entering the under-11 tournament and 20 players entering the under-12 tournament.

Stowmarket Junior Badminton Tournament 2008                      6th April 2008

The tournament was a huge success and the organisers were extremely impressed by the sporting attitude, etiquette and playing standard of all the participants involved.

A lot of the games were close and the improvement of the juniors in the county was noticeable, proving the junior club revival is having an effect and bodes well for the future of our sport.

Seven teams took part - Adastral Park, Abbeygate, Meridians, two teams from Stowmarket, Thorpeness and YMCA.  The format was mixed U17, U15, U13 age groups - 21 points no setting.

 

Results

1st   -  Meridians -14 games

2nd  -  Stowmarket Blue Team -10 games (beat red team by 37 points)
3rd   -  Stowmarket Red Team -10 games
Adastral and Thorpeness both got 8 games
Abbeygate took 7 games
YMCA took 6 games.

Stowmarket Junior Badminton Tournament 2008

Winners: Meridians         Second: Stowmarket Blue Team         Third: Stowmarket Red Team

Under-15 Non-County Tournament                                        3rd February 2008

 

The Under-15 Non-County Tournament took place at Great Cornard Sports Centre on Sunday 3rd February. Some 40 players took part in this day long event with all the games being very competitive.  The tournament was called ‘Non-County’ because county squad players were not allowed to enter.

 

The Under-15 county selectors were present and expressed interest in some of the players. These will receive invitations to the county trials this coming summer.

       Runner-up:    Charlotte Baker,  Stowmarket

 

Girls Doubles

       Winners:         Kimberley Gormer & Sam Pond,  YMCA

       Runners-up:  Charlotte Baker & Isabel Lucas,  Stowmarket

 

Boys Singles

       Winner:            Luke Burgess,  YMCA

       Runner-up       Lewis O’Neill,   Abbeygate

 

Boys Doubles

       Winners:         Simeon Patterson & Philip Nash,  Bosmere

       Runners-up:  Lewis O’Neill & Ross Slade,   Abbeygate

Badminton England Suffolk Under-15 Bronze Tournament

2nd February 2008         Rushmere Sports Centre, near Ipswich

The tournament was organised by Mike Tee of Suffolk Badminton Association and attracted 77 players from the eastern counties and the south-east.

The winners were:

       Boys singles: J Kee (Middlesex).

       Girls singles: C Dudley (Nottinghamshire).

       Boys doubles: P Pereira and J Kee (Middlesex).

       Girls doubles:  B McDonough and R King (Essex).

Badminton England Suffolk Under-17 Bronze Tournament

3rd February 2008         Rushmere Sports Centre, near Ipswich

The tournament was organised by Mike Tee of Suffolk Badminton Association and attracted 62 players from the eastern counties and the south-east.

The winners were:

       Boys singles: L Lefevre (Norfolk).

       Girls singles: N Bolding (Bedfordshire).

       Boys doubles: H Hacking and D Wiyanta (Sussex).

       Girls doubles:  L Bygrave and Y-Y Tee (Hertfordshire).

A large number of junior tournaments are organised each season by Badminton England in association with county badminton associations. Information and entry forms for each age group may be found in the “Young People & Schools” section of the Badminton England website.

Some county badminton associations also organise junior open tournaments that are sanctioned by Badminton England and are therefore ranking tournaments.  Further information and entry forms can often be found on the website of the organising county. It is expected that these tournaments will be listed on the Badminton England website in due course.

Under-15 ‘Non-County-Squad’ Tournament 2009

The tournament will be held on 8th February 2009. Details will follow. Players in the county squads will not be permitted to enter this tournament, giving others an excellent opportunity to play against others of similar playing abilities. Last season about 40 players took part (see below).
