Stowmarket Junior Tournament                                         3rd April 2011

Four of the local junior clubs Stowmarket, Abbeygate, Thorpeness and Bosmere gathered at Mid Suffolk Sports Centre for the annual Stowmarket Badminton Tournament. This event attracted 50 children and saw some very competitive badminton played across the whole field. There were three age ranges, with 8 pairs in the under 12's competition, 10 in the under 14's and 7 in the under 16's.
The event saw victories for Stowmarket in the under 12's, with Isabel Dunn and Craig Newcombe winning from the Abbeygate team of Antonia de Frettan & Tom Hunt, with Olivia Beales & Elijah Rout also from Abbeygate finishing in third place. In the under 14's Stowmarket again came out on top with Kerry Knott and Ryan Newcombe beating Alex Dobbyn & Hannah Robertson from Abbeygate in the final, with Mike Edwards & Georgie Carr again from Abbeygate beating Tom Chalker and Megan Clarke to claim the bronze medal.
The under 16's event was another close affair with Rory Beard and Beth Soman from Abbeygate winning from two other Stowmarket pairs, Jack Grey and Jo Knott taking the silver medal, nudging Jess Osbourne and Louis Reynolds into the bronze position. Congratulations to all the competitors that took part in what proved to be a great success for Suffolk junior badminton.                                                                     Andy Newcombe
