Inter-Counties Championship 2009-10

Suffolk 2nd v. Norfolk 2nd

29th November 2009 (Away)

The match to forget. Suffolk County Badminton 2nd Team lost to near county rivals Norfolk County Badminton 2nd Team by 12 rubbers to 3.

It just was not Suffolk’s day with only the men of Suffolk getting just 3 wins. Norfolk, riding high in the league table, really pressed home their advantage of a home tie.

The closeness of the men’s encounters is shown in the score line. Matthew Clackett was just a yard slower than usual in his singles. Daniel Hooper had a most excellent 21-11 and 21-16 win.

Then in the men’s doubles, Matthew Clackett / Daniel Hooper and David Wade/ Daniel Moss both lost to Norfolk first pair, but beat the second pair.

Laura Jacobs narrowly lost her singles which on another day she would have won. Only Amanda Newcombe / Wendy  Collins took the Norfolk ladies pairings to a third game.

Just look at the close scores in the first and third mixed which could have gone either way.

With seven rubbers that could have gone either way, perhaps it wasn’t such a bad score line.

21st March 2010 (Home)

It was a disappointing Suffolk County Badminton Second Team result against Norfolk Second Team, losing by 5 rubbers to 10. Again, as in their last match against Cambridgeshire, the tie was lost through not capitalising on the six rubbers that went to a third game. The Suffolk team only succeeded in taking just one of those third games.

There were excellent singles wins by Daniel Hooper and Charlie Aldred, with Laura Jacobs losing the first of the three-setters.

The men’s doubles were shared with Norfolk; the Suffolk pairing of Daniel Hooper /  Matthew Clackett and Daniel Moss / David Wade both beating the Norfolk second pair.

In the ladies’ doubles, only Amanda Newcombe / Karen Adderson managed to get a win. It just was not Charlie Aldred’s / Laura Jacobs’ day. With the three mixed to play, Suffolk needed just one rubber to get a valuable league point.. Matthew Clackett / Charlie Aldred lost in two games while Daniel Hooper / Amanda Newcombe and Daniel Moss / Karen Adderson both lost in two of those three-game rubbers.
