County Squads - Veterans

Veterans’ Squads

The Veterans’ squads are always looking for additional players to join them – the only qualifying criteria is that you are old enough! You do not have to have represented Suffolk or any other county at junior or full county level to be eligible to play. There are several players in the squads who are enjoying the chance to represent the county for the first time.

We currently run Over-45, Over-50, Over-55 and Over-60 teams and are keen to restart the Over 40’s team if there is sufficient interest. Please contact Sue McKinley if you are keen to get involved. There are usually at least two Veterans’ Practice sessions held at the start of the season and again around the Christmas/New Year holiday break which are open to anyone over 40 – or about to be!

Yonex Inter-County League

Veterans Badminton is very active in Suffolk where we run Over-45, Over-50 and Over-55 teams in the Yonex Inter-County League run by Badminton England link >>> .

The league teams consist of 4 men and 4 ladies playing level and mixed doubles in matches of 12 games, followed by a brief social in the form of a post-match buffet at venues across the South East of England.

Yehlex Inter-County National Tournament

The Yehlex National tournament fell victim to the weather conditions on the weekend of 9 and 10 January 2010 and has been rescheduled. The Over 45s will still play at Milton Keynes on the weekend of 20/21 March. The Over 50s and Over 65s will play at Stoke On Trent on the weekend of 1 and 2 May 2010. Further details will be announced through each team’s captain with regard to team selection and accommodation.

Over-60s

Our Over-60s team play matches on a similar format on a friendly home and away basis with Norfolk and Lincolnshire. If any other counties are interested in arranging similar matches, please contact the County Veterans’ Co-ordinator, Sue McKinley email >>> .

We are keen to run an Over-40s squad and add to an Over-55s squad which already has a small nucleus of players. Once you have had your birthday, you are old enough to play in the respective age groups! The closing date for team entries is in May for the following season, so we are actively recruiting NOW!
