Juniors
Generally the best way for juniors to start playing badminton is to join a junior club. Usually there will be a good range of ages and abilities, allowing players to really enjoy playing without being deterred by more experienced players. With the benefit of coaching at a junior club, players can progress much more quickly than by just playing badminton at school. Many players who have begun playing at junior clubs have gone on to represent Suffolk in junior team matches against other counties. Many have also participated in Badminton England tournaments against players from around England. All the players in the Suffolk senior teams probably played in junior clubs when they were younger. However, many junior players are not so interested in competitive play and just play because badminton is such good fun.
The “Clubs:Junior” page on this website provides a list of clubs with further details and contact information. Junior Clubs ►
There may be other junior clubs or groups in Suffolk.

Adults
Established badminton clubs may find it difficult to accept inexperienced players because club members understandably prefer playing with others of similar ability. Nevertheless, it is worth contacting one or more local clubs. They may welcome inexperienced players or know of a suitable recreational badminton group in the area. Village clubs and clubs that only have teams in the lower divisions of a league are also more likely to welcome inexperienced players.

To make it easier to start playing badminton, Suffolk Badminton Association gets
involved in a number of initiatives to help adults get into badminton. Currently
SBA is organising informal weekly ‘pay-

Why not get a small group of friends together and hire a court for an hour or two? Many sports centres have rackets and shuttles that you may borrow, but check first.
Suffolk Badminton Association is aware of a number of people around the county who would like to join a small informal group of players. Examples are ladies wishing to play during the day while children are at school, or retired people looking for a fun way to keep fit and active. We may know of an existing informal group in your area but we do not have the resources to run such groups. However we may be able to start groups where a demand exists, possibly arranging some coaching to help get a group started. If you would like to know of any existing groups in your area or are interested in joining a new group, please fill in the form below. We will also try to keep you informed of any other badminton initiatives in your area. (Your personal details will will not be released by SBA to anyone without your permission)
